Tennessee Elite Showcase 2013 (Memphis, TN): Black belongs in the upper-eschelon of players in his class. At 6-7, 215 pounds, he excels from both the perimeter and paint, making him a nightly matchup problem. He’ll take bigger players off the dribble, and back down smaller ones. Black can set up anywhere on the court and go to work; he has great mobility and athleticism to flourish in transition and has an arsenal of moves in the half-court. Good handle and jump shot, and a terrific face up game in the post. He particularly excels in the mid-range area. Good length helps him defensively as well.
Black’s motor is remarkable, his competitiveness is relentless and he’s attacks the paint—both on scoring and rebounding opportunities—with a vengeance. In terms of his motor, think Michael Kidd-Gilchrist; while most players are grasping for air in the fourth quarter, Black seems to gain energy late in games. An all-around player with huge upside. If he develops a consistent jump shot, I think he’s a pro.
