Chinanu Onuaku

Nike Peach Jam 2013 (North Augusta, SC): Onuaku is very limited on the offensive end. He is only able to score on drop-offs and put-backs in the paint, but he has noticeable upside. He’s an excellent screener, and rolls very hard to the basket to receive said drop-off passes. It’s not like he just stands around; he’s actually mobile and active, he just lacks skill right now.

He can finish above the rim, and made layups with either hand. He is also a very strong rebounder, using a 6-10 frame and active awareness to locate and corral rebounds. Good box out technique, and as he continues to add strength, he has immense rebounding potential. He is the younger brother of former Syracuse big man Arinze Onuaku, so the blood lines are there, too.

Onuaku can earn minutes as currently constituted—a physical center who rebounds and defends. His long-term future hinges on his ability to develop an offensive repertoire. Adding strength and rudimentary hook shots should be his focus.
